The National High School Basketball Association (NHSBA) was founded by Deuntate Copeland in 2006 under the guidance of the NHSBA Board of Directors. The NHSBA is operated by grant funding, private donations, and corporate sponsorships. The NHSBA was created with goals of expanding. Over the years NHSBA has expanded to multiple states and cities across the nation.
When Deuntate was a student at the University of Central Arkansas, he noticed there were many high school students that were roaming the hallways of their schools and communities not involved in anything and getting into trouble. But, they all loved to play basketball. He created NHSBA to help those students after school in their communities to develop skills that would help them on the basketball court, increase their academic performance in the classroom, and life skills in the real world.
Deuntate wants youth to lead successful lives after graduating from high school. Deuntate also believes that if the youth are offered a program that combines health and fitness, academics and mentoring, community service, and career prep, he will see young men and women achieve their dreams.
The National High School Basketball Association (NHSBA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2006 with the purpose of providing youth a safe haven to develop physically, emotionally, and intellectually. We focus on practical life skills that will guide their path toward graduation from high school, college, or trade school and into successful adult life.
It’s no secret that in many communities young people are left to roam the streets. With many suffering from the lack of role models, they become subject to the temptations and realities of drug use, alcohol abuse, gangs, violence, shootings, pregnancies, and bullying. With fear, self esteem issues and little involvement, youth have too much time on their hands and lack safe havens for a proper childhood.
